Baseball Winter Meetings Mets Red Sox etc
What do Julio Lugo, JD Drew, and Daistzuki Matzuska have in common? Before today, nothing. The Boston Red sox threw some crazy jack at these unproven, injury plagued, inexperienced, aging, inconsistent, or worst all of the above.
If Drew couldn't make it in Los Angles why is he going to make it in Boston? He has missed huge chucks of time in the past five seasons and you reward him with a $70 million contract? Lugo is thirty-one and will be decidedly slower in the third year of his four year contract. The Sox screw up with Renteria and to alleviate the problem they throw mad jack at a mediocre player that got lost in the Dodgers line up? Two words for any Red Sox fan HANLEY.. RAMIREZ or four words Rookie of the Year. Good luck with Beckett and Schilling too.
The Mets traded budding young prospect Brian Bannister to the Royals with cheese for a 22 year old "future closer". At first I hated the deal, but they both have up side and with Humber Perez Pelfrey Soler and Maine all 25 or under the Mets have plenty of potential young starters. Getting Ambiorix Burgos leads me to believe Heilman is on the way out, I'm just hoping Duaner will be healthy this season and the Mets get Guierrmo back after his 50 game suspension. The one question is Lastings Milledge, not exactly in the Mets plans for 07, there are rumblings if he is still on the squad he will be platooning with Green in right field.
Another story, or non-story is the inactivity of the Yankees. With all the noise the Red Sox are making I think and Yanks move in imminent. Then again they have more All Stars and the National League and more outfielders than I can name. The rotation is filled with question marks and has beens. The perfect idea would be to bring a question mark and has been.. Andy Pettitte. With all our luck the Yankees will swoop in during the 23rd hour and get Zito watch.

- Maddux isn't worth $10 mill but $16 over 2 sounds much better.
- Glavine getting $11.5 ? worth it when he gets his 300th vs the Braves.

- Why are the baseball meetings in Florida any way, and do the Marlins or Devil Rays even bother sending some one there?
